Patients typically undergo 15 to 20 treatment sessions.  Each treatment lasts between 30 – 45 minutes.  This, of course, depends on your individual case and is determined by a thorough evaluation.  Following each session, a cold pack and electric muscle stimulation are applied to help pain relief and speed the healing process.

It is important to note that many patients get substantial, immediate relief after just a few treatments.  Some after just one!

The really good news is…this is not something you have to continue to do for the rest of your life.  So, it is not a big commitment when you think of the reward. NO MORE PAIN!

Not too long ago, if you had a herniated or bulging disc, you only had two options:

1) Take handfuls of pain pills and learn to live with the pain as it eventually gets worse.
2) Take a chance on spinal surgery that does not have a great success rate and may make you worse.

The fact of the matter was, If you had a herniated or bulging disc, you were stuck between a rock and a hard place.  Nothing non-surgical was proven to work and surgery had its obvious and scary drawbacks.  Just like the neighborhoods we grew up in as kids have changed, so has medical technology.  The only difference is, some of the advancements in medical technology have been good!

In recent years we have seen the emergence of what has been nothing short of a miracle for countless herniated and bulging disc sufferers.  When non-surgical spinal decompression and the DRX 9000 first burst on the scene many patients and doctors were extremely skeptical. They asked, “why not traction, isn’t it the same?”

When you have a herniated disc, the outer shell of your spinal disc becomes torn.  This allows the gel-like inner material of the disc to leak out and put pressure on the delicate spinal nerves.  And in some cases, even the spinal cord itself.  Just the weight of gravity pressing down on your spine as you stand and walk around will put pressure and squeeze the inner gel-like substance out even more.  Even if the weight of gravity does not make the herniation worse (which it will most likely do over time), it keeps the herniation from going back into the disc where it belongs.

This makes sense if you think about it…Pull or distract the spine, and then the individual spinal bones will separate a little.  If the individual spinal bones separate a little, it will create an opportunity for the herniated disc material to go back into place. So, what’s wrong with traction?  Good question.  Here’s a great answer!

Pass The Ketchup, Please…

If you’ve ever squeezed out some ketchup or mustard.  What happens when you stop squeezing the bottle?  The bottle goes back to its normal shape. And when that happens, a little bit of the ketchup or mustard at the end of the spout gets sucked back into the bottle.  That’s what everyone hoped would happen with traction of the spine.  The only problem is, your body and spine are much more complicated than a bottle of ketchup!  When traction is applied to your spine, your muscles are pulled and have to stretch before the spinal bones can be separated.  Since the area is injured, as soon as your muscles feel the traction forces pulling, they react to protect the injured area.  The way they protect an injured area is to SPASM!!! This means they tighten up all at once as hard as a rock!  If you have a herniated or bulging disc, you know what spasm is,   and it ain’t no picnic.   This reaction is definitely NOT what you want to create. It’s what you want to END!

That’s why doctors and patients were so skeptical when the DRX 9000 first came out.  Doctors knew traction didn’t get the results from a clinical and scientific view.  And patients that had tried it knew, plain and simple, it didn’t get them better and could hurt like heck!

Here’s why the DRX 9000 is so much different than ordinary traction…The DRX 9000 has a state-of-the-art computer system that senses exactly what your body is doing an amazing…17 Times per Second! This is extremely important because as the DRX 9000 begins to s-l-o-w-l-y and gently distract your spine, it knows almost INSTANTLY if your muscles are reacting to the treatment.  If they are,  the distraction immediately stops, BEFORE YOUR MUSCLES CAN CONTRACT AND GO INTO SPASM!!!!

The computer keeps sensing your body 17 times per second and as soon as your body is relaxed the distraction begins again.  This process of cat and mouse continues, each time distracting your spine a teeny, tiny bit.  In no time, your spinal bones are distracted and this is where the magic happens!  When your spinal bones are distracted properly, a negative pressure is created inside the disc.  Think back to that ketchup or mustard squeeze bottle again.  The ketchup or mustard was sucked back into the bottle because when you stopped squeezing and the bottle went back to its normal shape…A negative pressure was created!!!

Is this case, the DRX 9000′s distraction of the spinal bones causes a similar negative pressure and the herniated part of your disc is sucked back into place.  The entire procedure is painless, all because of this amazing technology and computer system.

Since everything else for herniated discs had failed so miserably, doctors and patients had a hard time believing this “theory” would actually work.   That was until clinical trials proved just how well the DRX 9000 actually worked.

THE PROOF: 89% Success Rate…Up To One-Tenth The Cost.

The #1 Reason For Pain is Pressure!

When a patient is diagnosed with a herniated disc, the surgical treatment for this condition is  called a Discectomy.  What is a Discectomy?  A Discectomy is when the surgeon removes (cuts out) the piece of the disc that is sticking out.  We could dig deep and go on and on about the results of this type of surgery and throw out all kinds of statistics on why most people choose this surgery… But that’s not where we are going with this.  It’s All About Relief. The only reason to have surgery in the first place is to resolve the problem; to come to a resolution…to have relief from pain!

But, what happens with this type of surgery? Well, most of the time it leaves a hole for more jelly to leak out because it doesn’t seal up on the inside, much like a scab would on the outside.  Cutting out that part of the disc is comparable and very much like having a cut on the outside that would require stitches.  Unfortunately the disc can’t really be stitched, like skin can.   So the cycle starts over.  Activity and pressure build up and push that gel back out, resulting in pressure and pain.

A study of this surgery was conducted and considered “groundbreaking.”   As we discussed it in our office,  it didn’t seem all that earth shattering.  The study indicated that after a Discectomy, only 37% of the patients were able to return to ‘work’ long term.  With the patients that ‘elected’ to go back in for a second surgery, less than 17% had enough relief to tolerate going back into the work force.

For these poor people who have been suffering with back pain, feeling like surgery was their only option, to be left with pain, medication, and the lack of hope is really tough to swallow.  Out of all the patients that come to our office, if I were to make an educated guess, there’s probably 4 out of 5 that say that they’ve been told that they have to live with the pain or have surgery. Most of the time that’s just not true!
