“Back in 2001, I had a fusion done on my L5 S1 vertebrae.  I had degenerative disc disease as well as spondololestethis.  I am very active and work out a few times a week but I noticed more pain, less sleep, less mobility and an overall decrease in my way of life.  Another surgery is not an option for me so I started looking into a proactive way for pain relief.  I saw a commercial for spinal decompression and a non-surgical approach.  After my 12th visit, I could clearly tell the treatments were working.  The staff is very thorough, professional, and most important, compassionate.  They have a real interest in helping you get better.  I will continue to use Dr. Ginter and his staff as a proactive measure for regular maintenance on my back.”

spinal fusionEach day, patients arrive at Core Health Systems faced with a crucial decision. They have recently been advised by a surgeon to undergo Spinal Fusion Surgery.

Most people with low back pain do not need a spinal fusion, but unfortunately it is becoming an increasingly popular form of treatment. Spinal fusions have more than doubled in the last 15 years! Because of the high risks involved as well as the high success rates of other more conservative treatments readily available, it is our strong opinion that spinal fusion surgery, should only be performed when all other more conservative treatments have failed and the patient cannot go about regular everyday activities because of pain and/or seriously limited range of motion.

Some Risks of Spinal Fusion Surgery Include:

· Superficial infection

· Deep infection

· Adverse reaction to anesthesia, including death

· Nerve damage

· Blood clots

· Damage to the surrounding areas

· Weakening over time to the discs above and below the fusion site leading to additional spinal problems down the road

· Failure to relieve the pain

· Increased pain

Increased pain after Spinal Fusion Surgery is the one complication we see the most in our office. In fact, we see this on a daily basis. Sometimes we are still able to help these patients and sometimes, sadly, it is too late.

Additionally, the recovery after Spinal Fusion Surgery is typically long and painful

A 2004 opinion article in the New England Journal of Medicine stated that “the emphasis of research efforts should shift from examining how to perform fusion to examining who should undergo fusion. The indications for this invasive and expensive procedure remain unclear despite its rapidly expanding use.”

“I used to have excruciating back and leg pain. Before, I couldn’t walk, sit, raise up, bend over. Nothing without pain. I could only lay on my stomach. I slept in a recliner most of the time and would only get 2-3 hours of sleep. I tried other chiropractors. 2 neurologists both recommended surgery and spinal fusions. Now I have no pain at all in my back. I sleep on both sides all through the night. I’m still careful when I bend over and lift. It has changed my life. I feel like talking and smiling now. Before I felt down and out, wore out all the time and had no energy. I would recommend Dr. Ginter’s treatment to everybody that was in my shape. He is a super doctor with an extra super staff. WHOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“In August of 2000 I was in a car wreck.  By Christmas I could not stand due to the pain down my back and in my left from pinched nerves.  I had to be taken to the emergency room after a fall.  I couldn’t get up off the floor.  I had 4 back surgeries but each time the pain came back and I could not walk.  I was scheduled for a 5th back surgery.  I was on oxycontin, methadone, percocet, vicadin was like candy and morphine pills.  All I wanted to do was stay in bed flat on my back and that’s not a good thing when you have a business to run.  I couldn’t work for weeks at a time.  I couldn’t get out of bed, I was barely able to walk and was preparing for a spinal fusion of four discs in my lower back when I heard about your special care.  I was very skeptical and had been to other chiropractors but decided to try it.  After only a few treatments on the DRX9000 I was walking without significant pain.  On completion of treatment I could walk, bend and lift (even heavy objects) without pain.  Now I can do anything I want.  The severe debilitating pain is a thing of the past!  I’m a lot happier, I’ve lost weight and I can play with my niece and nephew, go fishing and hunting.  It was like a miracle and all without surgery.  Thank you!”
